How we connected women with their OBGYN care teams between appointments.

OBGYNRx helps women stay connected with their OBGYN care team between appointments, through symptom tracking, care plan management, secure messaging, and lab result delivery. We built the patient app, the provider portal, and the secure backend behind both of them, so the experience feels simple and consistent for patients and providers alike.

The Problem

Between OBGYN visits, patients need an easy way to track symptoms, note questions, and stay on top of their care plan.

Prior vendor attempts failed

Between OBGYN appointments, which can be weeks or months apart, patients have nowhere to record symptoms, ask questions, or track their care plan. Many questions go unanswered until the next visit, and important issues can easily be missed. For conditions like endometriosis, PCOS, or high risk pregnancies, that gap can be concerning.

Providers, meanwhile, spent the first 10 minutes of every appointment asking what had changed since the last visit, information patients had often forgotten. There was no continuity of data between the patient’s phone and the provider’s EMR.

HIPAA compliance, cross device sync, and EMR integration had defeated two previous vendor attempts. OBGYNRx came to Fusionwave with a clear vision and a regulatory requirement: ship compliant or don't ship.

Challenges Solved

What it took.

  • HIPAA compliance across every surface. Not just the database, but every vendor, every API call, and every log file. We signed BAAs with all infrastructure providers and built an audit log designed to support thorough review.
  • NLP that works for non medical language. Patients say “my back hurts on the right side when I sit,” not “right sided lumbar pain, seated.” We fine tuned a medical NLP model on a large collection of annotated symptom descriptions to better understand how patients naturally describe their symptoms.
  • EMR integration in a fragmented market. OBGYN practices use a wide range of EMR systems, making integration a challenge. We built a FHIR first integration layer that connects with the most widely used systems, along with a simple manual export option for those that are harder to integrate.
  • Building trust in health data apps. We looked closely at trust during the early stages of the product. Clear consent flows, an easy way to delete personal data, and a simple explanation of who can access each piece of information helped create a more confident signup experience.
Core Features

What ships in the product.

01

Symptom logging

Patients can describe their symptoms in everyday language, while the platform turns that information into structured clinical data for providers. No medical terminology is needed.

02

Care plan tracking

Patients can view their care plan from their provider, including appointments, tests, and medications, with simple reminders to help them stay on track.

03

Secure provider messaging

Secure messaging that allows patients and providers to communicate and share attachments. Providers can respond during the hours they have set for messaging.

04

Lab result delivery

Results appear in the app as soon as they are available, with a clear explanation and simple guidance on what to do next.

05

Symptom timeline

A clear timeline of all logged symptoms that patients can share with their provider before or during the next appointment, helping make visits more focused and productive.

06

Provider portal

A clear timeline of each patient’s activity between appointments, including messages, care plan updates, and appointment notes.

07

EMR integration

Patient data is sent directly to the practice EMR through HL7 FHIR, so providers do not need to enter the same information twice.

08

Emergency contact protocol

Patients can mark an entry as urgent, which sends a notification to the on call provider for review outside regular hours.

09

Multi practice support

Patients seeing multiple OBGYN providers, such as an MFM specialist and a community midwife, can connect with both through one app.
